Working throughout Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and Sussex, the occupational therapy team provide assessment and treatment of children and young adults (up to age 19) with developmental, neurological and chromosomal disorders such as:

  • Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
  • Downs Syndrome
  • ADHD and ADD
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) or Dyspraxia
  • Dyslexia and specific learning difficulties
  • Visual and Auditory perception
  • Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Physical Difficulties
  • Learning Difficulties

One of the team will assess the child’s motor, sensory, perceptual self-care and everyday living tasks from which a report will be created and a treatment programme developed to help the child go on to achieve their full potential.

Assessment

Assessments are carried out in an ‘engaging’ environment such as home, pre-school, school or college depending on age. This will cover age-relevant activities but would typically include:

  • Drawing or handwriting
  • Fine motor skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Visual perception
  • Daily living tasks

Post assessment report

A full report will be completed and results fed back to parents and teachers (if appropriate) along with activity and strategy advice, and goal setting.

Training for parents

A number of training courses have been developed and are held to help parents understand and support their children with developmental, neurological and chromosomal disorders and these are run on weekdays and Saturdays to fit around parent’s other commitments.
