The Vine Day Centre in Aldershot is a charitable organisation which provides valuable support to homeless and vulnerable adults aged 25 and over in North East Hampshire.

The dedicated team at the Centre works with people who are homeless due to mental ill health, long term unemployment, domestic abuse or substance misuse. They offer sometimes life-saving counselling, advice and practical support to help reduce the social isolation caused by homelessness.

This help takes the form of counselling, putting the right services in place when required, filling in forms to help access other social services, and even sometimes just offering a nourishing hot meal, a safe environment and a friendly chat.

"If it wasn’t for the Vine and the support
I received, I think I would probably be dead"

The Vine Day Centre is currently run by two support workers with help from volunteers, and is governed by a board of seven trustees. Their aims are to:

  • Increase the skills and employability of homeless people through activities at the Centre to improve life skills and (for example) IT skills
  • Improve their mental health and wellbeing and reduce their dependency on substances through access to medical and social support services
  • Improve their access to sustained housing
  • Reduce the likelihood of them committing crime

After 25 years of providing this kind of support in Aldershot and Farnborough, the Vine’s staff know that solving homelessness is rarely as simple as just putting a roof over someone's head. For each client the Centre creates a personalised support plan which looks at their whole circumstances and needs, and then uses this to contact the other local agencies who can provide the support needed to move them towards a stable life.

If you are concerned about the wellbeing of someone who is homeless or struggling with other social issues, please call or email the Centre, or call in for a chat. They can find the right support for the person you are concerned about before things get worse for them.

Operation and Volunteers

The Vine Day Centre needs to ensure vulnerable and homeless people know they are there to help them, and work with local agencies such as GPs and council bodies to raise awareness, and publicise their service through the local press and other charities in the Aldershot and Farnborough area such as the Community Matters Partnership.

In the end though the Centre runs on funding for the practical things like running the building and providing food and facilities, and dedicated volunteers who help with everything from working in the kitchen to marketing and teaching IT skills.

If you would like to volunteer your time or your skills, please phone or email to enquire, with no obligation.

Donating

To help with financial support, you can make a one off donation online by clicking the Donate button or sending a cheque made payable to The Vine Day Centre, or you can make a monthly donation through your payroll (the Give As You Earn scheme).

You could also help by fundraising or gifting food or other essentials - the meals clients have at The Vine are usually the only hot meal they have each day, so the Centre needs supplies of fresh food in order to provide healthy, nutritious meal. Please click here to see the kinds of food and non-food items needed, and if you can donate of any of these items please contact the centre.
