Councillors approved the work of the Project Design Team and agreed to proceed to the next stage and tender process, during a meeting at the civic centre.
The Project Design Team revealed these striking new images of how the new bus station will look at a meeting of Exeter City Council’s Leisure Complex and Bus Station Programme Board.
The team revealed that plans for the project are on schedule and the new bus station is due to be completed in the winter of 2018.
It is being developed by Exeter City Council at the site of the current Bus and Coach Station, and will be built next to the state-of-the-art new leisure complex St Sidwell’s Point.
Reserved matters planning applications for both projects are due to be discussed by councillors early in October.
Cllr Phil Bialyk, Lead Councillor for Sport and Health and Wellbeing, said he was delighted with the progress of the scheme.
He said: “A lot of work has gone in to creating the designs for the new bus station and I am very pleased that we are now at the stage where we can proceed to the next stage. The facilities for passengers will be a big improvement on the outdated Bus and Coach Station Exeter currently has, and I am delighted that the project is moving forward.”
