The Alex Clarke Quintet. Featuring: Alex Clarke, Jamie Brownfield, Tom Kincaid, Jim Swinnerton and Jack Cotterill

Alex Clarke, who was a nominee in the 'Rising Star' category at the 2018 'British Jazz Awards', is an outstanding reeds player.

Since the age of 15, Alex has been a regular face at jazz clubs in the North West and Midlands, working with many local bands as well as her own Hot Five and Quartet, and also performing alongside notable names such as Roy Williams, Bruce Adams, Enrico Tomasso, Gilad Atzmon, Greg Abate, Jeff Barnhart, The Brownfield Byrne Quintet, The Nicola Farnon Trio, John Hallam and Tom Kincaid. Additionally, she is the reeds player for the Bolton-based Dixie Beats. She can be found at most of the traditional and mainstream jazz festivals, both playing and listening. As well as small group playing, Alex is also a keen Big Band player and held the tenor sax chair in the Greater Manchester Jazz Orchestra last year, as well as depping for a variety of North West big bands including the highly-regarded 'Swingtime'.

Heavily influenced by the sounds of Tubby Hayes, Ben Webster, Sonny Stitt and early Phil Woods, Alex enjoys playing a wide variety of jazz. Whilst her Hot Five specialise in creating an authentic New Orleans sound, her mainstream quartet perform a mixture of swinging American Songbook standards and bebop tunes.

She has recently taken up a scholarship place to study Jazz at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she is aiming to combine her studies with maintaining and developing her gigging schedule.

Expect a cracking night of entertaining jazz.
