Chris Coull Quartet featuring Andy Panayi
Two heavyweight English musicians, band leaders, composers and educators will kick off our spring season – trumpeter Chris Coull, who cites Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard and Wynton Marsalis among influences and who’s played with Johnny Dankworth, Alan Barnes, Jim Mullen, Ralph Moore, Tony Kofi and American figures including Howard Alden, Jerry Weldon, Richard Johnson and Dominick Farinacci, brings his quartet – which for this gig includes special guest Andy Panayi, who’s a professor of music lecturing at various academies and conservatoires conversant with “all the flues and all the saxophones” and who’s also played with many of the aforementioned faces as well as legends including Hubbard himself, Billy Cobham, Scott Hamilton and Abdullah Ibrahim/Dollar Brand.
