Incredible Iron Age
Saturday 16th May
1pm to 2.30pm
The Iron Age lasted from 800 BC until the Roman invasion.
The use of iron changed the life of folk with other advances like the potter’s wheel, the lathe for woodworking, and the rotary quern for grinding grain.
The population grew substantially till it exceeded one million, due to the introduction of improved varieties of barley and wheat, and increased farming of peas, beans, flax and other crops.
Farming improved because the iron-tipped ploughshare made it possible to plough heavy clay soils.
Meet some Iron Age folk and discover what it was like to live in a roundhouse.
Cost: £5 per child (includes 1 accompanying adult)
