Care UK’s Amberley Lodgewill open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
On Saturday 8th August, from 1pm-3pm, the head chef at Amberley Lodge will host a tasting event, inviting guests and residents to sample dishes from around the world and score it on presentation, taste and aroma. Cuisines on offer will include Japanese, Polish, Jamaican, Indian, English, and more. And as one resident suggested, there will be a pop-up market to replicate the experience and atmosphere of a bustling local market.
Amberley Lodge resident Mary Kearns, 92, said: “The market is a lovely idea! I’m looking forward to meeting new people and getting involved. This reminds me of my mum who would go to the local market every Sunday to buy chicken. She would make chicken, potatoes and cabbage, and we would enjoy the meal together.”
The eventsare part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homeshost foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
