The initial renewal proposal was a shock in terms of the increase sought. I usually prefer to stick with the same underwriters but was forced to go to the market as the proposed 54% increase in premium was not acceptable. Market was competitive and I was seriously considering moving . Fortunately the existing insurer called today and we had a frank discussion and were able to get the overall premium cost down to a comparable number and I decided to stick with them. It is preferable to talk with your current insurer rather than simply react to lower premiums offered when you compare within the market as there may be some nuances that you may have missed or misunderstood eg. value insured,
acceptable policy excesses, annual mileage etc. These issues are not always brought to the fore when making what you believe is a like for like comparison to market pricing.
