VE Day was celebrated on 8th May 1945, after Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.
The team at the home has been hard at work organising their own special commemorative event, which will see residents and guests enjoy an afternoon of delicious food, entertainment and dancing as they embrace the spirit of the 1940s.
Over at Cairdean House, locals are invited to join the celebrations from 2pm-4pm, featuring a 1940s street party that will get everyone in the VE Day spirit. Fabulous entertainment by Alex Hodgson and many other activities will be available to enjoy on the day.
Resident Alison Dickson, 93 at Cairdean House said: “It is so important to share and celebrate such a huge milestone in history. I remember we had a holiday for the occasion and had a whale of a time celebrating!”
