They seem to narrowly escape calamity at every turn, guitar and fiddle in hand. Are they cursed? Are they blessed? Can one wedding change the world?? With catchy songs and Muppet-y energy, “there’s nothing they can’t sing and laugh their way through” (New York Times). Think Flight of the Conchords… if they had sex.
A Jewish, genderqueer couple, whose folk-pop anthem ‘People Think We’re Straight’ will, well, set people straight, sing smartly stupid songs that are full of heart and packed with jokes in this gloriously positive, funny, and original hour of musical comedy.
Couplet is more than meets the eye. ‘Our Wedding Venue Burned Down’ is a surprisingly touching ballad that landed them a piece in the Mini-Vows section of the New York Times earlier this year.
Both classically trained musicians, Marnina Schon (she/they) and Micah O'Konis (they/them) are a real-life couple who, together as Couplet, perform monthly at UCB and theatres around LA and have created sketches with the likes of Josh Gad, Michaela Watkins and Seth Rogen.
As an actor, Marnina can be seen in Sundance selection comedy-drama Chanshi with Henry Winkler, Netflix’s Unstable with Rob Lowe, as well as appearances in other series on Hulu and Dropout. Micah is a writer and composer who created the musical More Guns! which ran from 2018 until the pandemic hit at Second City Hollywood. A cast album from this show, titled Good Guy With A Gun,will be released this year.
Directed by Fringe favourite Chris Grace and his husband Eric Michaud, the couple behind Fringe hits Thrones! The Musical, Voldemort and the Teenage Hogwarts Musical Parody and Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson, Honey Honey Moon Moon might just be the perfectly wholesome, hilarious hour you need at this year’s festival.
