This is a real gem, I have stayed several times and always had a warm welcome. Several friends and family members have also stayed and each one intends to return. Rooms are spotless and comfortable, breakfast is individually cooked, the car park is a real bonus whilst the location, in a quiet road 2 minutes from the seafront could not be better. However what really makes the Sheldon special is the care and commitment of the owners who do everything possible to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of their guests. An excellent choice for a stay in Eastbourne.

Seemed a bit more B&B than hotel. Lovely staff, nice building, Superior single was decent, Superior twins were very good, shower was difficult to get the right temperature. Great location & free parking. Breakfast was good and staff very accomodating. All in all good for a 1 night stay.

Excellent hotel . Lovely room. Crisp white bedding . Soft white towels . Lovely and warm rooms. Tea and coffee refreshed every day . Rooms are a lovely size with TV and two seater sofa plus table and chairs. We found this ideal in the evening to chill out and relax after our evening meal . The breakfast was wonderful , set us up for the day . Plenty of choice and nothing was too much trouble if you wanted to change it around a bit. You are looked after very we'll . The rooms have a comprehensive guide to Eastbourne which we found very useful . It's ideally situated too , only two minutes walk from the nearest restaurant and five mins from a wetherspoons pub and the town centre . Just to finish on a big tick in the box for The Sheldon is its own car park behind the hotel . Invaluable . Can't speak highly enough of the Sheldon . Will hopefully be returning in the near future.

We have choosen this place as a stopover hotel traveling from Calais to South West England.
The location is perfect, in the centre with good and secure parkingspace for FREE ! at the rear of the hotel.
You can easily walk to restaurants and to the pier and the sea.
They gave us good restaurant tips. We finally ate at Solo Pasta - that was "perfetto"
Our room was very spacious but a little outdated. Curtains were torn, the sofa broke. We had a room in the basement at the back of the hotel, so it was very quit at night. Maybe this room was not yet re-done.
Breakfast was ok and enough for a morningstart but not 4-star hotel worthy.
All in All it is a very good choice to stay at the Sheldon. Price/quality is good.
And Eastbourne is so much nicer than for example brighton. Specialy the pier is so beautiful.

My husband and I selected the Sheldon Hotel based upon the locality and the favourable feedback left on Tripadvisor.
I booked through Laterooms, which I highly recommend other users never to do so!!!!! However I would recommend to book directly with the hotel. The level of service the family run Sheldon offers far exceeds that of any booking agents!
Upon contacting The Sheldon directly I was greeted by a most kind lady who's smile emanated via her voice ;) she booked my husband and I into the suite. I mentioned that we were driving a large vehicle and I was a little worried about whether it would pass through the carpark entrance (as I had noted by reading other reviews that it may be a right squeeze to enter although the carpark itself was more than ample) absolutely no fuss was made and she acknowledged my concern and I was offered a space located at the front of the hotel (how lovely was that!!!!)
Upon arrival we were greeted by a well presented scholar who, once again, was of genuine kindness and upmost of professionalism. What a brilliant skill to have (one of hospitality) prior to leaving secondary schooling years. He will go far in life :)). We were booked in, we were offered for our cases to be carried however we were ok to carry them (a little touch like this goes a long way if we were unable to carry our luggage) and we were shown to our beautifully decorated and immaculate Suite (room 15).
The suite had a comfortable sofa located in a wonderfully large bay window. A double shower cubicle and large roll top bath were located in the room along with complimentary slippers and wonderfully soft bath robes as well as indulgent shampoos and soaps. An ensuite loo with sink was hidden in a large bright and clean cupboard.
A mini fridge containing bottled waters and orange juice was a real joy to have along with cakes and section of biscuits, fruits, coffees, teas and hot chocolates also. Something for every mood :)
The bed was HUGE clean pressed bedding and was so incredibly comfortable I could have slept for ever. Like sleeping on a nice fluffy cloud!
Breakfast was perfect!!!! A wonderful selection of cereals, fruits, yoghurt, breads and fresh juices and that's just to tickle your taste buds prior to tucking into a perfect portion sized cooked English, yum yum.
Once again the hospitality goes over and beyond that of what I have ever experienced anywhere!!!
Te morning smiles and genuine interest that the family run Sheldon exudes is absolutely spot on.
All in all ....... I cannot fault anything, apologies for no constructive feedback ;) all I can say is "keep up the brilliant work"
Sending thank you's on mass you truly did make out two night mini break away an experience to look forward to once again. Can't wait to come back and say hello to you all again :)))

My wife and I stayed for three nights at the Sheldon Hotel, we chose to stay here due to the excellent reviews given by others. It was my wifes birthday so I chose to stay in the 'Suite' (Room 15) which includes a King size bed, a bath and shower, a settee and fridge plus en-suite toilet.
The room was lovely, very large and airy with very high ceilings. Good selection of coffee / tea provided along with a kettle, milk waiting in the fridge along with water and fresh orange juice. An excellent assortment of shampoo / body lotion / shower gel also provided, along with lots of clean towels and also dressing gowns + slippers. Very high quality all round.
The settee was very comfortable and, being next to the window, a great place to sit and read. The TV worked fine, normal selection of digital channels available. The hotel itself is about 200 metres from the main road by the beach but this made it extremely quiet in the evenings and throughout the night, no noise from late night 'revellers'. The parking at the back is through a very narrow entrance but had plenty of space for everyones car and is very convenient. All in all, no complaints.
I must remark on the fact that I had mentioned in the booking that it was my wifes birthday and we were pleasantly surprised to come back to our room on the 'big day' and find a lovely bunch of flowers just waiting for her! A very nice touch and much appreciated.
All in all, no complaints. Breakfast was very good, great selection of cereal / croissant / juices, etc., plus an individually cooked breakfast. Room was always clean and everything topped up on a regular basis (including some lovely little cakes!) If you are looking for a nice, clean and peaceful place to stay in Eastbourne, with good wi-fi and near the beach but away from the noise of the seafront, stay here.

Just spent one night at The Sheldon. Very easy place to stay. I had to leave at 5am in morning for a photoshoot and then returned in time for check out at 10.30am. Easy in, easy out. Just stayed in a single room which was fine for the few hours I was in there. I would like to try it again, next time in a double. Looking at other reviews, this is a favourable place to stay. I have stayed once before in Eastbourne and it was a disaster - old people's hotel which was grim with a capital G. So thank God or similar for The Sheldon!

Having found this wonderful hotel by chance a year ago - largely because they have an on-site car park - shortly after Greg and Judith took over, there was no question about where we would stay in Eastbourne this time. I was even more impressed when Judith and I spoke on the phone and she clearly remembered us. We were pleased to find that the hotel, and its owners, were just as we remembered them: the welcome was genuine, the room was large and comfortable, the breakfast set us up for the day, and busy people found time for a chat!
We can agree with everything that other people say, with one (very minor) criticism - the shower was a tight fit for me! This was, however, a problem for just a few minutes in the morning.
We will be back.

I spent some nights at the Sheldon last autumn.
Yes, I picked it for the name and the location.
We had a wonderful stay there! The owner family is very smart,
gives you advice about what to do in Eastbourne. The breakfast is big enough,
the hotel rooms as well. I guess we were some of the youngest visitors in Eastbourne, but who cares? ;o)

Absolutely beautiful hotel, rooms are lovely really big and airy. Very clean and very well thought out and tastefully decorated. Owners are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Really good value, much better than a lot of the bigger hotels. Would definitely stay here again

The owners are lovely and very welcoming and really made us feel at home. Breakfast was cooked to perfection each morning with our needs being anticipated after they knew what we liked, which was a nice touch. We stayed in a budget double room so I can't comment on the regular rooms, but I thought for £56 a night including breakfast it was very good value. The town centre, restaurants and the seafront are right on the doorstep, but we didn't find the location noisy at all. There is a lift to the first and second floors. All in all we were very happy at the Sheldon and will be staying there again.

We stayed at the Sheldon hotel from 29th Dec 2013 until 2nd Jan 2014. We stayed in Room 34 on the ground floor. It was a large family room with a bath and shower which is always nice. The room was very clean and bright and airy with a large bay window facing the car park but it was very quiet. The location was excellent for the town or seafront. Greg, Judith and Jordan were very friendly. Greg cooked a lovey breakfast, it was first class. Would stay here again if we were in Eastbourne

Duncurin and family travelled down to Eastbourne to look in on an elderly mother-in-law for a few days over Christmas; we were a little worried about our ‘Turkey-and-tinsel’ break on the sea-front. As it turned out the Sheldon was a perfect choice with enthusiastic, energetic and hard-working hosts who did everything to make us welcome, comfortable and also cooked wonderful breakfasts to enable us to spend our days with my wife’s mum.
We’d booked two of the superior rooms, which are clean, bright and very spacious. Most notably our super bed was one that was both comfortable and large enough to ensure restful nights. Our girls, too, had a spacious comfortable room with twin beds; the large amount of space and the bright, restful lounge – all with free, unrestricted Wi-fi access allowed them to get on with their University work.
The owners of the hotel are attentive and friendly at all times, have a strong work ethic and deserve to do well. Although our main motive in travelling was to make sure that ‘granny’ wasn’t on her own – this wonderful hotel was a simply perfect choice to support and encourage us to do precisely that.
One tiny note, the large car park at the rear has a fairly low entrance and my little car complete with roof box just managed to scrape under with millimetres to spare; so, if you have a large car/roof box it would be better to park on the road.

We originally chose this hotel as being close to the town centre as possible and with a car park.
I must admit, the Sheldon exceeded our expectations. The room was very large with storage space galore no having to trip over suitcase.
The owners were the friendliest of people, only to pleased to give advice as to places to visit etc.
Although knowing Eastbourne quite well we were directed to some new places.
For a touch of luxury at the price of a two star this is the place to stay.

We stayed for three nights of luxury accommodation at the family run Sheldon Hotel. The free off street parking and warm welcome ensured that our stay started off in the best possible way.
The room was spacious, well laid out and spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the roll top bath a treat. Each morning we had a choice of cooked or continental breakfasts that were spot on.
The staff were cheery and very helpful when we asked questions about the local pubs and restaurants that were all close to hand. Being so close to the sea front (2 min walk) meant we did not need to drive to enjoy our stay.
All in all the hotel is a real find and one we will definitely return to. Highly recommended!

I only had the pleasure of staying at the Sheldon Hotel for one night (11th Nov) and I was given a single room complete with a spotlessly clean en-suite. There was a small seating area to relax and enjoy a cuppa from the well stocked beverage tray. Breakfast, which was made from good quality produce, was served in a light and well dressed dining room. I found the hosts to be very receptive, warm and welcoming and one can tell that the well being of their guests are very important to them. I would have like to stayed longer but due to a tight travel schedule I could not. In saying that, if and when I happen to be in Eastbourne again, I shall seek out a room at this establishment where I felt quite relaxed and comfortable and looked after.

The Sheldon is a couple of minutes walk to the seaside and shops. The room we had was very nice at the front of the hotel. Very clean and spacious. Breakfast was nice. There is parking at the back which is a real asset. Very narrow entrance but we have a big car and managed to squeeze it through ! Recommended.

We stayed at the Sheldon for 2 nights on a quick getaway. We were given a room at the front with bay window on first floor. Absolutely spotless and very comfortable. The staff were most welcoming and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet road a very short walk from the promenade and the town centre, and there is plenty of parking at the rear which in this area is a great asset. We had a small but effective bathroom with a walk in shower which was excellent, very clean warm white towels. All in all it was just right and great value we will go back. There are a number of excellent restaurants within 200 yards and would highly recommend Martins.

I really enjoyed my 2 night stay at this hotel to attend a conference. The owners were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay, as were the staff serving breakfast. I stayed in the budget double, which was small but had everything you would need. The room and the hotel in general was very clean and well looked after; the décor was modern and appealing; and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, with a wide choice to suit all tastes as well as catering for specific dietary needs (one of our party required a gluten free diet). Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Booked as a last minute break, opted for the 'suite', warm greeting on arrival from the lovely chap on reception who offered to carry our bags to the room. The decor throughout the hotel is fresh and contemporary, the room itself is very spacious with a free standing bath and a shower within the room itself,a super king size bed and separate toilet and basin. All good until we realised that the toilet hadn't been flushed and the bathroom bin emptied since the last guests. Then had to check round to make sure everything else was ok. The hotel do provide a hair dryer but it is nowhere near the mirror, also a good selection of teas/coffees, cakes and biscuits and fresh milk in a little, fridge, all nice touches. A word with reception soon had the bathroom issue it sorted out and a small refund on checking out but not really what you should expect at £105 per night. It didn't spoil our enjoyment of the room, the bed is extremely comfortable and car parking on site a great asset. Breakfast was excellent but only served 8am to 930am which, for a Sunday morning, could have been a bit later to enable a lie in but with checkout being by 1030 maybe this isn't possible. Perhaps,a later checkout on a Sunday ?
Would I recommend the hotel - yes definitely, would we stay there again if visiting Eastbourne - yes would certainly consider it
