Just one night’s stay, but very enjoyable and giving us a taste for more visits to this small seaside hotel. Our “basement” room (nr34?) is among the roomiest we have ever had in any hotel or B&B: showercubicle AND bathtub, spacious enough for a family of four, modern furnishings and a very good bed.
We could easily bear staying there for a week. Breakfast was OK (cooked breakfast to be chosen from a menu and served at your table) and the proprietors at reception were very friendly and pretty efficient respectively.
One downside: the view of the hotel car park (free for residents and accessible if your car is less than 1.9mtr high) from room 34 will either urge you to draw the curtains close or send you on a walk by the seaside, but that’s the idea of staying in Eastbourne, is it not?
We stayed in room 29, one of the "budget" rooms. It was clean, comfortable and offered both shower and bath, but above all it was quiet! There was ample tea and coffee etc, plus a very modern TV with a good selection of channels. Breakfasts were excellent and offered more than the usual choices.
All in all, very good value for money and a place we could recommend to others.
The Sheldon is located a few minutes away from the seafront, and is a walking distance to the railway station. The street is rather quiet and conveniently close to some lovely restaurants.
The staff is friendly and welcoming. The room was really spacious and bright. The only down side was that no bottles of water were provided. The usual tea/coffee tray is available though. The room seemed newly refurbished.
We booked through and thought the price included breakfast, but upon arrival we were told that we had to pay an extra £7.50 per person. We found it a bit pricey. However the breakfast seemed to be made upon order and was really good. The portions are reasonable I would say, but my partner found it too small to his taste.
We had a good experience overall. A shame that the breakfast isn't served until 10 am, and that the checkout is so early (10.30am).
Decent room, bathroom cramped, nice breakfast, staff very helpful. They also do good packages, especially golf etc so check when in the area. The Royal Eastbourne Course is £20 less when booked a s a package. The car parking is free, but a bit tight getting out, so be careful.
This hotel is an absolute gem. Just behind the sea front but close to the shops and restaurants. A very clean and welcoming hotel. Fabulous rooms with modern and stylish décor. Extremely clean and bright. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was lush. The breakfast was fantastic with a great choice and well presented. All in all a great experience and we will definitely return.
This hotel is situated just a couple of minutes walk from the seafront, town centre, theatres and tennis. It has a car park, though small and tricky if you have a large car, it is perfect.
There is no license or evening meals but you can bring your own drink and food to consume on the premises much cheaper. There is also discount at the restaurants near by.
The rooms are nicely furnished, with smellies and tea coffee supplied. There is also an iron, hair dryer and electric fan supplied which I did not get in the 4 star hotel around the corner. Breakfast is excellent cereal, fruit, pastries, yoghurt, porridge as well as the usual fry up, you can even have sausage or egg/bacon butties.
Overall this is a much cheaper hotel than the posher hotels but with the same breakfast and rooms supplied, I will definitely stay here again, the staff are also very nice and the owner judy is very nice
We really enjoyed our stay here. The room we had was beautiful and had some nice features such as a free standing bath and a separate big shower although paying £15 to check in 1 hour early seems steep. This hotel strikes me as a family business that is a long term project, so rooms have been updated although our room windows were single glazed wooden frames and rattled when the wind blew! The corridor needs decorating and looks old and tired, but the family are friendly and make the effort. Breakfast was good and again like the room has been decorated, they were 1 staff member down and therefore service was slow but main point is the food was excellent. Would we stay here again? Yes but a few modifications needed to really make it a top hotel in a competitive market.
This was a weekend stay at the hotel. The room, a basement, superior, was well furnished comfortable and spacial. The bed, a king size was comfortable. The room enjoyed both a bath and overhead shower. All were clean and worked well. Toiletries were supplied. The tea tray was well supplied including biscuits. Also in the room was an iron and ironing board. Unfortunately the heating in the room was not working, there was a prompt response from the management, which improved it very slightly. Fortunately there was also a fan heater in the room which made it comfortable.
Breakfast was a disappointment. There was only a choice between cereal and tinned mixed fruit. This was bland and tasteless. The cooked full English, although well cooked and presented only had one small chipolata sausage, which was hard and tasteless. I considered it a small portion.
The hotel is clean and tidy, but has a lot of stairs, difficult if you have poor mobility. The lift does not reach the basement area.
We booked a room at the last minute and we were pleasantly surprised. Room was a little dated but very clean. Breakfast was really good quality and served quickly. We would stay here if ever in Eastbourne again.
our room was very clean and a lovely size, the owners were very nice and friendly, breakfast was lovely and very good service. It would be good if they were to provide evening meals, although they have discussed this but decided against it. Another big plus is the parking space that each customer receives, no on road parking here which is great. Overall a good place to stay and very central to all amenities.
It was early in the year so probably quieter than high summer so it's difficult to judge noise but I found everyone friendly and helpful. I had booked 3 nights but added an extra 2. Hotel is bright, well kept with a large lounge. My single room was fine with plenty of room. I am a 70 plus the lift was essential.
It is close to shops and theatres Very close to the front and to the excellent footpaths in the area. The car park is great saved a lot of money on parking fees along the front..
The slight draw back is that to ring reception there is no internal phone, not usually needed but I was unwell and needed drugs I had left in the car., it was fine. used my mobile and the problem sorted. . I had a great stay.
We booked for one night and ended up staying for two. Friendly welcome, helpful staff, spacious room, huge comfy bed, spotless bathroom and a yummy breakfast... What more could you ask for? We will definitely be back and will recommend the Sheldon to all our friends.
Great value, clean, fantastic location, free onsite parking, friendly owners, great breakfast, strong WiFi - what more could you want? Only one minor quibble was that the two pillows supplied were too high and too hard, but that's probably just me.
We stayed in this hotel for one night. I found yhr staff very friendly, the room comfortable abd the breakfast great value. The hotel is a short walk to the pier and city center and is also only a 20 minute bus ride to seven sisters which I would highly recommend. Great value!
We only stayed one night at the Sheldon, it has its good points and its not so good.
It has a great location on a side road, just off the sea front and has it's own off street parking. Be careful though, there is the narrowest little archway to get through to get to the car park at the back. In a VW Golf with parking sensors we were fine, but any bigger than that and we would've been worried. That said, there was a Range Rover in the carpark so it must be do-able!
The staff are welcoming on arrival & the converted victorian houses are nicely decorated.
Our room looked very much like the ones on the images with a large double bed, huge windows (but don't expect a sea view) and a compact en-suite.
I'm not sure if there had been recent changes to the en-suite as there were some capped off pipes which weren't the prettiest and some awkward/space-saving design features which didn't really work out (especially when you're 6'3").
The negative of the huge windows & high ceilings was that, even with all 3 radiators turned up to the max, the room was chilly when we got back that evening & didn't really warm up before morning. There are additional heaters available if you ask reception, but of course we only read this in the morning.
Also, as in the title, if you're a light sleeper this may no be the place for you. "Knocking" radiator pipes and being able to hear the conversations of other guests in their rooms doesn't make for the best night's sleep if you're easily awoken by unfamiliar noises.
It's not necessarily the cheapest either - we paid £116 for the night. We'd probably feel this was a bit expensive if it wasn't for the included breakfast.
Finally, the breakfast was very good; some nice options of cooked and lighter breakfasts available in a lovely dining room served by the very friendly staff.
Situated a few minutes walk from both promenade and main shops this hotel is in a great location. Lovely breakfast provided by cheerful waitresses, room very clean with luxury bedding and adequate bathroom - all topped off with onsite parking. There really was not anything to dislike.
I booked a last min deal at the sheldon for Mother's Day treat for me and my mother.
It was a great hotel, lovely large room(family room) comfy beds !! Lovely breakfast and great location. Felt very friendly and home from home. Would recommend this hotel and would defo go back.
We spent a night at the Sheldon as we were going to the theatre and thought it would be nice not to have to drive home afterwards
The hotel is situated perfectly for the theatres and is also very close to some good restaurants. The town centre is only a 10 minute walk away
We stayed in the luxury suite which was a very large room at the back of the building with en-suite toilet and a roll top bath and walk in shower in the room. The sheets were brilliant white cotton and the towels thick and fluffy. Plenty of nice toiletries and ample storage if you are only staying a few days. There was even fresh milk in the fridge
The only down side was the lighting in the room which was very dim.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and pleasant staff. The sausage and bacon (the bench mark on which we judge all hotels we visit !) were of good quality and very tasty
We would happily use this hotel again
We stayed here for 2 nights x We were in Eastboutne for my Fathers funeral ..everything was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome ..We were in the family room which was a great size for all of wife and I and 2 boys 8 and 4.

My only complaint to be honest was the breakfast x as both mornings the sausage was burnt and the bacon under cooked . That isn't a huge complaint as the cereals and toast yogurts fruit juice and coffee.etc were all lovely..
Once again thankyou and am sure we will come again but hopefully for a happier occasion !!

This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are beautifully made up with a modern but homely feel. The whole hotel is clean and tidy with a stylish decor. We were upgraded to a family room which was lovely and spacious, and as we were in the lower ground floor we had our own side door entrance which was handy. The car park was also useful, meaning one didn't have to find a space on the streets.
The breakfasts were lovely with a lot of choice, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The only thing I can think of to improve anything, would be to have a radio or sorts in the dining room to give background ambience, otherwise this hotel is practically perfect in every way!
Stayed for 2 nights could not fault anything , nice clean spacious room . Staff very friendly and helpful . Tasty breakfast plenty of choice . Would stay again if we are that way . Close to beach , shops and restaurants .
I booked to stay at the sheldon hotel because Iv stayed once before in a double room, and was happy.this time I thought we are only staying one night so we will book a premier room £110 .what I didn't read was that the bath and shower are in the room,so on arriving and realising this I asked if we could have a room with separate bathroom the young lady was fine if we could wait until she made the bed up.when shown to the new room it was standard with a small bathroom with a cracked sink and mould in the shower unit but still it was short notice ,but then one of the radiators wasn't working I had my jumper on and was cold so I put my dressing coat on,then my partner went and asked for a heater which was given straight away.we are sad because we won't go back there again.
My husband travelled from Yorkshire for a Funeral , so it was all last minute , so we chose this Hotel on the web , because of its location . He was pleasantly surprised , in his words , excellent , lovely room (ticked all the Boxes ) , great hosts , breakfast superb , all round worth a 5
We booked this hotel through Groupon, a steal at £50 for a double room. Dissapointingly little availability and also really disappointed to have not been told it was a budget room beforehand. Would have happily paid an upgrade as it was a much needed treat. All staff were lovely, especially the young man who checked us in. Breakfast too was also lovely. The room above the driveway (29) I think, was tiny but clean and had a nice bathroom and good storage. I couldn't get wifi in the room and did smash my head on the tv twice :( i wouldn't judge the whole hotel based on the budget room so will probably revisit at another time (not through groupon this time)
A hotel that is worth a second visit the room allocated was spacious and a separate shower room the breakfasts were both tasty and freshly cooked .
The staff under the owner JUDITH were all pleasant and helpful
The bonus for this hotel is the of street parking
Hoping to return this year
