The Annual Durham Miners Gala comes to Durham on Saturday 11th July.

This year will see the usual annual parade of banners and brass and the event has been happening since 1871.

The popular event now adds an exciting mix of international brass to this traditional festival.

The festival stage on the Saturday afternoon will see El Autentico Tamborazo Zacatecano, a traditional Mexican marching band who come from a former silver mining community in the Mexican baija. They will be playing alongside Byron Wallen, one of the most exciting and innovative trumpet players in the world.

This year there is also the Oompah Band, worth a listen if you want to hear a Banarian Lilt!!

Austrian group Global Krynerwhich whose polka-rockpop-punk sound doesn't just lift the spirits but they claim, 'acts as antidepressant, painkiller and dementia blocker'!  Why not check out their Eurovision Song Contest semi final on you tube, by clicking here.

Don't forget that Durham has some great hotels and restaurants on offer and all will be busy with a great atmosphere during the gala!
