The Sitwell Singers with Beate Toyka and Gillian Bithel -piano duet

For the closing concert of this season we offer a programme which may literally be described as ‘From the Sublime to the Ridiculous’.

The choir will be singing Brahms' (Sublime) Liebeslieder Walzer, setting of love poems by Georg Friedrich Daumer, and the Op 69Sieben Lieder, which sets love songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Der Jungbrunnen (the Fountain of youth), two well- known German romantic texts.

We descend to the Ridiculous with Richard Rodney Bennett’s Nonsense – seven humorous and quirky settings of the Nonsense poems by Mervyn Peake ( the poems themselves range from simply silly to frankly bizarre).

We are accompanied throughout on the piano (four hands) by our friends Beate Toyka and Gillian Bithel, who will also give us Bizet’s piano suite Jeux d’enfants.

Tickets: £10, under 16s free
