BOXjam takes over
the Box, Bar 7 & the Stage Door
for 1 special day of music.
28th October 2012
Doors open 12:00pm
This year, the event will occupy three stages – The Box, Bar 7 and The Corner Bar - all part of the popular Nantwich Road Royal Hotel complex. To date over 100 acts have performed at the event, with this year’s all-dayer featuring 40 acts. Headlining the event will be popular local band ‘Sink Or Swim’, musical legend ‘George Borowski’ and ‘The Slippery Hill Boys’.
Organiser Simon J. Newbury said, “I’m passionate about local music and also about raising money for charity. Boxjam began with a desire to be involved in the nationwide fundraising event and has grown to be a spectacular! It’s a celebration of local live music and this year we have decided to make it a free event and hope that people coming to see our 40 wonderful and varied acts will dig deep to support the charity.
Boxjam is the product of many people donating their time for a great cause, not least the 40 acts we have playing for free this year. I love the fact that we have such a varied lineup - guitar legend George Borowski, who has performed with the likes of Radiohead, Meatloaf, REM and Tina Turner, is not to be missed. We are so grateful he is performing for us this year.
We also have singer/songwriters, rock bands, indie, ska and jazz acts as well as a wonderful female vocalist performing at the event. Our other headliners this year are Sink or Swim and the Slippery Hill Boys. We have raised nearly £1500 so far and we hope to make another good contribution to help the wonderful work that Oxfam do.
We have support from the local Crewe Oxfam shop as well as a set of wonderful volunteers who help to keep the day running smoothly. We even have home-baked cakes again so everyone can get involved! Please come along and support us, bake us some cakes or donate something for the raffle. There is really something for everyone and its all set to be a very special day!”
Admission is free, although voluntary charity donations are encouraged. Doors open at noon.
