The Alright JACK Saxophone Quartet will be playing a selection of music, spanning the rise and fall of Kirby Hall from its inception in 1570, through royal visits, the English Civil War, the times when the hall had become ruined, roofless and was lived in by a shepherd and his flock, to its revival and use as a film set in the 20th Century, under the care of English Heritage.
The programme includes a piece by George Jeffreys, who was steward and house musician at the hall in the 1600s and, although highly regarded as one of the most radical composers of his time, is now largely forgotten. Alright JACK are delighted to be bringing his music back to life, right in the place where it was composed and most likely first performed.
The quartet will be playing outside in the courtyard if its fine, or inside the Great Hall if it rains. Please bring a picnic and a folding chair.
