DEMENTIA Friendly Congleton has found a friend in Redrow after the two came together to tackle loneliness.

Dementia Friendly Congleton, a sub group of Congleton Partnership, received £500 from Redrow towards the cost of providing afternoon tea at regular sessions to support those living with dementia.

Susan Munro, from Dementia Friendly Congleton, explained: The group has been running for about two years with sessions in different locations across Congleton town.  Typically up to 20 people attend, aged from 50 upwards and they enjoy tucking into afternoon teas, taking part in art sessions, dancing and swimming, amongst other activities.  The people who attend say that the sessions help to alleviate the loneliness and feeling of being cut off from the community that is a huge part of living with dementia.

Were very grateful to Redrow for their assistance, which will help us to continue to support people with dementia and their families.

The group also runs Dementia Friends information sessions to inform the public and local businesses about the issues surrounding living with dementia and how they can work to make it easier for someone with dementia to remain active in the community for as long as possible.

Dementia Friendly Congleton was one of nine causes local to the homebuillders Cranberry Gardens development to benefit from Redrows Congleton Community Fund.

Anna Evans-Kerr, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (NW), said: Community is what makes Congleton a great place to live. Groups like Dementia Friendly Congleton can have a big impact on peoples lives. We were happy be able to assist with the cost of the carers and loved ones sessions, helping people come together to support those living with dementia and their families too.

Cranberry Gardens offers a choice of two to four-bedroom homes from Redrows Heritage Collection. Show homes at the development are open daily. For more information call 01260 241 520 or see www.redrow.co.uk/cranberrygardens.
