Care UK’s Silversprings, on Tenpenny Hill, is inviting local people to its Dementia Café on Tuesday 30th April. The event runs on the last Tuesday of every month from 3pm-4.30pm.
The event offers attendees guidance from the home’s team members and an opportunity to share their experiences and create a support network where they can meet others who have similar experiences of caring for someone living with dementia.
Helen Hutley, who has attended the café with her husband since his diagnosis of dementia in 2022, said: “To all those who are caring for a loved one with dementia, I would like to recommend the dementia café. I have found this invaluable since my husband Barry was diagnosed.
“The café is extremely relaxing, and it’s so comforting to be able to speak to others who really understood how difficult it can be at times for both the carer and family. The conversations we have often leads to just a friendly discussion about any subject.”
Joanne Rix, Home Manager at Silversprings, said: “Looking after a loved one with dementia can, at times, be a difficult experience. We understand these challenges, which is why we’re inviting the community to our Dementia Café – to bring people together in similar situations, just like Helen, and build a strong support network across Thorrington.
“Here at Silversprings, we have extensive experience caring for residents living with dementia, and we have a fantastic team who each have a vast amount of knowledge and can offer emotional support and guidance for those caring for loved ones at home.
“We look forward to welcoming people to learn from our expert team how to better help those living with dementia.”
Silversprings is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own hair salon.
