On Saturday 8th August from 12–3pm, Care UK’s Colne View will open its doors to families and neighbours for a free food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection. 

Visitors to the Dame Mary Walk home can look forward to enjoying cuisines from all over the world as well as delights from much closer to home, such as one resident’s famous apple pie recipe. 

The day will also include activities such as bunting making and herb potting, which has been bringing residents together in the lead-up to the event. 

Resident Linda Saunders said: “I love to bake my famous apple pie and share this with others. I have never baked so much for such a big crowd, but I am looking forward to the challenge!” 

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like. 

Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
