The third of five talks exploring the impact of Big Data on today's society, 'Changing Lives Through Research' will discuss the relationship between research and Big Data. How will it work for the UK and can it really help make a difference to society? Is some research more ethically justifiable than others? Are there any research uses of personal data that we should never allow? What are the key moral and ethical dilemmas around consent to the use of data for research and public benefit? How important or effective is consent within the research context – do we need other mechanisms as well?
