What would Mary Portas make of our great independent shops in Chesterfield?

Mary 'Queen of Shops' Portas has been asked by the government to conduct a review with the aim at halting the 'decline of the High Street'.

The review aims to look at addressing the problem of empty shops, promoting the development of more prosperous and diverse high streets  It will also look at preventing the growth of clone towns dominated by the same large chains and boosting the number of small and independent retailers in town centres.  The review has been called as the High street is suffering from a combination of the recession, higher rentals and rates and the growth in online shopping and price comparison.

Mary Portas will use her extensive retail and branding experience but has also asked to hear from big retailers, little shops and anyone with a passion for a brilliant High Street.  You are invited to add your ideas to this debate at www.maryportas.com  The findings from this review will then be reported back to the government in the autumn.

I believe that Chesterfield has always been strong with Local Independent shops and here at thebestof Chesterfield, we know just how important it is for us to support them and Buy Local.  Support our Buy Local campaign, by clicking here and you can let a local business know how much you appreciate them.

If we shop with Chesterfields businesses then it is a win, win situation. You save time and money and the local economy is boosted.  Thus helping Chesterfield remain a thriving, independent business community which doesn't turn into a 'clone town'.
