The Spireites Are Back In Contention For A Play-Off Place.

Spireites were hoping to produce the same form that had seen them collect 4 points during the Easter weekend, winning 1-0 at fourth placed Burton and then drawing 2-2 at home to 2nd placed Port Vale. Barnet who were fighting for their league status were hoping of a similar result to the one they got at the Proact when they won 1-0 earlier in the season.

Richards and Cooper were struggling with ankle injuries they both picked up against Port Vale, Cooper made the starting line-up, sadly Richards didn't make the squad. Boden was recalled from Alfreton and was given the role as lone striker. Brindley and Gnanduillet didn't travel with the squad, which meant Whittaker was given a starting place.

The first half the Spireites were shooting down hill towards the home fans, which gave them a slight advantage. The first half was a poor one for the Spireites, with both sides struggling to create chances.

H.T. 0-0

The Spireites would need to improve if they wanted to keep in touch with the play-off places. It wouldn't be straightforward because they would be shooting up hill, which isn't easy because it is quite a steep slope.

Edgar David's was trying to lead by example, he got past 2 players before his cross was claimed by Tommy Lee.  Jon Nurse had a shot at goal, but it was blocked by Cooper.

Cooper then set up Boden, he managed to get away from his marker and hit a lovely curling shot towards the far corner, but the keeper Stack was equal to it and made a fine save.

Talbot found O'Shea on the edge of the area, he managed to turn his marker and hit a ferocious shot past Stack, to give Spireites the lead.

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Barnet, a team low on confidence looked shell shocked, they just started pumping long balls forward and hope they found their target. Then they produced a brilliant pass to find Mark Byrne, he was clean through running towards goal, but Cooper produced a brilliant last-ditch tackle to deny the home team.

Darikwa produced a lovely bit of skill to out wit a couple of the bees players, and created space so he could produce a lovely ball to find Togwell, he took his chance well to give the Spireites a 2-0 lead.

This was enough to kill off Barnet, and give the Spireites in the end a well earned victory.

F.T. 0-2.

My Man of the Match will have to be given to Cooper, he captained the team and helped them keep a clean sheet with his blocks and his tackles, his organisation skills helped the team defend 18 corners. Before he came along they were vulnerable on corners. To me, he is a natural born leader and he deserves to keep the captains armband.

Cook talking to the official website said:  'First half was probably as poor as I've seen us play in a long time. I said at half time, it looked more like an end of season game where we had nothing to play for. You can imagine, the paint come off.'

It definitely worked and a much improved second half gave them victory, Cook is showing that he can get the best out of the team when he needs to. Now they are 3 points off the play-offs with the biggest game of the season coming up on Saturday against Bradford City at the Proact, who are just a place above them in the table. It won't be easy against a team that reached the final of the League Cup, having knocked out Aston Villa and Arsenal.

I'm a big fan of the Spireites and follow them up and down the Country. I got into writing blogs when I was picked to do a blog for the Derbyshire Times for a year, which I really enjoyed. All the views...
