We can look forward to cheering on all of the Olympic Torch Bearers on Friday 29th June, when we will be graced by the Olympic Torch weaving it’s way through Chesterfield, Bolsover and Calow.

 

In order to get you all into the Olympic Party mood, there have been some fantastic Olympic inspired entertainment arranged for this historic day in Chesterfield.

 

Bolsover Olympic Torch Relay and Celebrations

There will be special events held at Bolsover Castle and sports taster and demonstration sessions and so much more during this day long celebratory event from 11:30am until 10pm.  For more details click the link above.

 

Rykneld Square (opposite Visitor Information Centre), from 11.45am

Enjoy performances from Hady Primary, Brimington Primary, Spire Infants, Newbold CE and Dunston Primary School children who will perform some fantastic dance routines and specially-written Olympic chants. There will also be some break dancing and zumba demonstrations.

 

Town Hall, Rose Hill, from 11:45am

There will be Olympic themed tunes from William Rhodes Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and the North East Derbyshire Music Ensemble will play Olympic inspired music for you to enjoy. The replica torches which were designed by 13 school clusters in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire will also be on display at the Town Hall steps at 12.45pm. A fanfare will be played by the North East Derbyshire Music Ensemble from the balcony of the Town Hall from 12.45pm to welcome the Torch into the Borough from Calow.

 

Crooked Spire

The 'Crooked Spire' Church bells will ring out loud and proud from 12:46pm.

 

Olympicnic, Queen’s Park, from 1pm- 5pm

The Olympic celebrations will continue at Queen’s Park with an informal Olympicnic, with special Olympic themed activities for the children including an orienteering course, some wildlife Olympics plus a small funfair and bouncy castle. There will be live music from local singer Whiskey Bob Shaker, a brass band, the Cock and Magpie Morris and Chesterfield Garland Dancers.  You can also join in the fun with Zumba and boxing-based fitness programme Oz Box will be on show.  Chesterfield Fundraising Group for Cancer Research UK will also be there to raise funds with an amazing Tombola and Olympian Ellie Koyander will also be there.

11:52am: Bolsover through to Calow

12:25pm: Calow to Town

12:45pm – 1:30pm:  The Relay arrives into Chesterfield from Hady Hill at approximately 12.45pm.

Torch Relay Celebration Party, Brampton Manor

Carry on the celebrations on this momentous day at Brampton Manor from 5pm until late.
