Bolsover Castle is amazingly Fairytale like and you can wander around the ruins, throughout the grounds and inside the castle and imagine what it used to be like.  There is also plenty to do for all the family in the Discovery Centre with its fascinating audio-visual displays, and there are the extensive grounds to explore with lots of green space for a family picnic. Complete with panoramic views over the Vale of Scarsdale, Bolsover Castle has everything you need for a fun day out in Derbyshire. 

Let the kids travel back in time with the following Events are being held throughout August.  All children are welcome to join in the Time Travellers Go… events.  An additional £1 will be charged on standard admission for every child, member and non-member in order to help fund the entertainment.

Time Travellers Go… Heroes & Villains - Monday 1st August to Friday 5th August
The training to become a fearsome highwayman starts here! Take part in a thrilling musket drill, listen to the myths and legends surrounding our favourite rogues and plan your own ambush. Children can also take part in a fun trail around the castle ground to find the hidden highwayman stash!

Time Travellers Go… Gruesome - Monday 8th August to Friday 12th August
Certainly not for the faint-hearted, take a journey into the horrors of medieval disease, terrifying surgery and ghastly punishments from days gone by. Can you stomach the more gruesome side of history?!

Time Travellers Go… Cavaliers & Roundheads - Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August
Join Oliver Cromwell’s army and discover what it took to be a soldier of the English Civil War. Then test your agility in the children’s battle and learn to use a pike in our soldiers drill. Children can also learn all about the castle’s exciting Civil War history in our family fun trail around the grounds. 

Time Travellers Go… Knights & Princesses - Monday 22th August to Friday 26th August
Give that toy sword a whirl or put on your prettiest dress and head back in time for activities on a medieval theme. Transform yourself into a noble lord in squire training, learn about etiquette and even try on armour in our academy for budding knights and princesses. Children will also be able to take part in a children’s battle. 

Clash of the Knights: The Battling Barons - Sunday 28th August to Monday 29th August
Hear the sound of clashing swords at Bolsover Castle this bank holiday as our battling barons show off their skills in the tournee ring. Children can take part in a mini battle of their own and the hobby horse joust is sure to keep them entertained. Visitors will also get to meet a variety of medieval folk including an executioner, herbalist and Spicer as well as our brave knights.
