Spireites suffer their fourth League defeat in a row against Notts County.

The Spireites are letting too many goals in, with 3 of their last four games ending in 3-1 defeats for Chesterfield. Fleming has struggled since coming in for the injured Tommy Lee and the defence has been constantly changed, through players not being available. So the back four have not settled as a unit. Grounds as had to play at left back, because Smith was on International duty for Jamaica for the games against Sheff Wed and J.P.T. match against Notts County. They decided to rest him for the league game against County and stick with Grounds at Left Back and keep the centre pairing of Holden and Downes who had played well together in previous games.

Fleming had to be on his toes straightaway having to pull two saves off from the start, in the end the Spireites succumbed to pressure and were 2 nil down at half time. A poor display from the Spireites who were outplayed by a strong Notts County and could have been 3 down, if Hawley hadn't have missed a sitter, shooting wide with the goal at his mercy.

Chesterfield came out a lot stronger in the second half with Westcarr scoring in the 52nd minute. An unlikely comeback looked on, if only the Spireites had started the game like this. Notts County looked vulnerable at the back, the Spireites couldn't find a breakthrough. Holden had to go off with a head wound that was pouring blood.  A comedy of errors on the touchline saw Smith warming up ready to replace him and in the end Whittaker, Bowery and Clay came on, still Holden had to keep coming off to have his head bandaged 3 times in total. This didnt help the team as they seemed to lose their way, in the end an unlucky own goal 2 minutes from time wrapped up the game. Maybe they missed Sheridan who was banned from the touchline, who might have made an instant decision to replace Holden with Smith.

The next game is now a very important one, when they entertain Hartlepool who have lost their last 3 games. The Spireites must win as they again find themselves in the relegaton zone. Hopefully Tommy Lee should be back for this game, and Smith will resume his left back position, and Grounds will go back into the centre of defence.
