Spireites suffer another heavy defeat.

After suffering a heavy defeat at Bramall Lane, losing 4-1 to Sheffield United, they were nine points from safety. They needed to win today to try and close the gap and hope results went their way. Just one change, Ridehalgh coming in to play at left back replacing Smith. This would be the Spireites 3rd game in 7 days, including the game at Wembley.

Straight from the kick off the Spireites looked dangerous, an Allott ball found Bowery who was looking to run at goal, but was taken out by Reid. The Ref astonishingly failed to produce yellow card, instead just gave him a talking too. Later on Reid was booked for another foul on Bowery, this could have been a sending off, had he booked him earlier, leaving Scunthorpe to play most of the game with 10 men.

In the 21st minute the Spireites took a well deserved lead, Westcarr scored to put Town ahead, holding off the challenge of their defender to slot past the keeper. Sadly against the run of play the sides were level, when McAleny looked to have handled the ball and then crossed for Robertson to score. The Spireites should have gone in at half time leading, having dominated much of the first half.

In the second half, the Spireites conceded 3 more goals, Walker, Robertson and Barcham. The Spireites looked tired, maybe Wembley had taken it out of them, both mentally and physically. The game finished 4-1 to the visitors and few of the crowd booed and shouted "Sheridan Out". What a difference a week makes, they were celebrating winning the Johnstones Paint Trophy, now some of the same people were chanting for the Manager that had won them the Trophy to be sacked.

Although it dosen't look good for the Spireites barring a miracle they will be playing in league 2 next season. The next game a must win match at Walsall, who are the team that the Spireites need to replace if they are going to stay up. Ten points off safety and rooted to the bottom.
