Spireites Suffer Another Defeat

Chesterfield were hoping to bounce back after their New Years Day defeat at Accrington. Just one change by Cook, O'Shea started in place of Jack Lester. Cook decided to revert back to the 4-2-3-1 formation with O'Shea playing just behind lone striker Marc Richards.

It was a quiet start by both sides, both sides giving the ball away too easily and failing to string any passes together.

It took about 25 minutes for the visitors to create an opening, O'Shea found Richards with a lovely pass, he ran at goal, but he fired straight at the keeper. O'Shea with 2 defenders around him, managed to create some space for himself and he hit an unstoppable shot passed Archer to put the Spireites ahead.

Usually when the Spireites take the lead they go on to dominate the game and finish up winning. Sam Wood came close for Wycombe when his shot hit the side netting. O'Shea hit another lovely shot that again beat Archer, but this time the Bar denied him.

Boa Morte still looking for his first goal for Town, had his header saved by the keeper. The Spireites were looking to kill off the game, Richards came close after a good run from Talbot.

With half- time fast approaching the Referee gave Dunne a telling off.  When a corner came in the referee did nothing, when it looked like Tommy Lee had been bundled into the net and it also looked like he had been impeded by Hause who managed to score passed a body of players.

H.T. 1-1.

Richards looked to have scored when he received a ball from Cooper, but for the second game running was denied by the woodwork, his effort hitting the top of the bar. Randall had his header saved by Archer after getting onto a cross from Richards.

10 minutes into the second half Kuffour hit a lovely lob over Tommy Lee, to give Wycombe the lead. Lester came on for the injured Talbot, Darikwa was moved to right back as the team changed to a 4-4-2 formation. The dangerous O'Shea was moved to the wing.

Morgan the former Spireite hit the crossbar with his well taken free-kick. Randall produced another save from Archer and Lester hit his effort over the bar. Dickenson came on for Boa Morte and Whitaker came on for Randall. The visitors pressed for an equaliser, they almost got caught by Wycombe when Joel Grant looked to have been fouled by Sam Togwell inside the penalty box, but it wasn't given.

Dickenson almost scored, but was denied as Archer somehow kept his drive out. In the end Town could not find the equaliser and they again tasted defeat having looked at one point the more likely winners.

F.T. 2-1

Man of the Match goes to O'Shea who was a constant threat apart from when he was put on the wing which made him less effective. Cook his hoping to extend his loan, although Dickenson will go back to his club Brighton. Boa Morte had another good game, he looks to be finding his match sharpness and surely only a matter of time before he scores his first goal for the Spireites.

Fellow promotion chases Northampton are the next visitors to the Proact, a game the Spireites will need to win if they want to get their promotion aspirations back on track.

I'm a big fan of the Spireites and follow them up and down the Country. I got into writing blogs when I was picked to do a blog for the Derbyshire Times for a year, which I really enjoyed. All the views...
