The Spireites were looking to get back to winning ways after suffering their worst defeat of the season losing 3-0 at Southend. York City were the visitors to the Proact, it was important that they won today, if they wanted to stand a chance of getting promotion this season.

A bumper crowd of 7,322 including just over a thousand York fans, had turned up for this Boxing Day fixture. Townsend made his first start for the Spireites replacing the injured Richards, he was playing on the left wing with Smith continuing at Left back.

Both sides were struggling to get any kind of rhythm going, both cancelling each other out. O'Shea made a lovely run, when he somehow got through the middle of two York players, sadly his run came to nothing. Boa Morte also made a good move when he was surrounded by 3 players, he used his trickery and passed the ball to another Town player.

With neither side managing to create any real opening when half-time arrived. Hopefully both teams would come to life in the second half.

H.T. 0-0

The team talk from Cook worked wonders, I was just about to sit down when the Spireites scored the opening goal. A lovely ball from Randall was met by Talbot who took his chance well. Talbot became the 17th player, playing for Chesterfield to score this season. Although my good friend Stand Up informed me he was the 18th player to score for Chesterfield if you count the own goal by Matt Smith. It's great that we have players all over the pitch that can score and no longer rely on one player.

York City and their very passionate fans thought they should have been given a penalty when Cooper challenged Walker in the penalty area. The ref gave a goal kick, much to the annoyance of the York faithful.

Whittaker came off the bench to replace Randall and within seconds of coming on, he was in the right place to put the Spireites 2-0 up. Whittaker caused York further misery when he picked up a loose ball, passed it to Boa Morte who failed to pull the trigger and Darikwa was on hand to score the Spireites 3rd.

A York fan managed to get to the the West stand before being arrested. York came close to scoring but were denied by the brilliant Tommy Lee. The Crowd were bouncing and enjoying the performance from their team.

F.T. 3-0

Stand Up felt that Whittaker should be awarded the Man Of the Match because of his instant impact, when he came on and made sure that the Spireites would bag all 3 points. It was great to win 3-0 even though Richards the main striker was out injured. This shows that there are plenty of players capable of scoring goals. Next up is Morecambe at home, Cook will be hoping for another win and another step closer to the play-off places.

I'm a big fan of the Spireites and follow them up and down the Country. I got into writing blogs when I was picked to do a blog for the Derbyshire Times for a year, which I really enjoyed. All the views...
