The season kicked off with a trip to AFC Wimbledon, a new ground for the Spireite fans to visit. The sun was shinning on the fans who were squashed into the away end, all 600 of us. Having only been formed 10 years ago, amazingly they were starting their 2nd season in the football league.

Starting line up : Lee,Forbes,Trotman,Hird,Smith,Talbot,Randall,Togwell,Whittaker,Richards,Bowery.

The Spireites in their new Gold strip were hoping to get off to a good start in League Two. With four new signings making their league debut for the Spireites, the fans were hopeful that they could get the team off to a good start. The spireites started brightly forcing two quick corners, Talbot made a good run into the box and forced a save out of the keeper. Smith had a shot, knocked away for a Corner, Richards blazed one over the bar. Then Smith put in a good tackle, on a rare occassion the home side managed an attack. The Wombles were starting to get into the game and with 10 minutues to half time the home side took the lead, Macdonald hit a long ball which found Midson, who scored past lee.  The away fans felt he was offside, but the flag stayed down. Bowery came close after being set up by Togwell, his shot was blocked on the line. H.T. 1-0.

In the second half the Spireites struggled to breakthrough the Wimbledon defence. Promising moves kept breaking down, Westcarr came on for Trotman and failed to control the ball on his first touch from Richards. I felt that Lester should have been brought on to partner Bowery upfront, they had looked good together against Tranmere. I feel Westcarr dosen't offer us anything upfront and is better on the wing were he can cause problems with his crosses.

In the end the game finished 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon, although it wasn't the start the Spireites were looking for, it is still early days. Next up is Rochdale at home, last time the teams met, Chesterfield won, which relegated Rochdale to League 2.
