Spireites lose at home to Colchester on a hot October day

Frustration for the Spireites as they lose 1-0 at home to Colchester. Sheridan was proud of the performance, on another day they could have had four or five goals. The Spireites failed to clear the ball in the 30th minute, the ball fell to Antonio who drilled in a low shot to score the only goal of the game.

Chesterfield threw everything at Colchester, Clarke hitting the post. It just wasn't to be, Mendy made some lovely runs, just couldn't find a way through. Grounds and Holden had chances from corners, but couldn't convert. You could tell it was going to be one of those days for Town, when Williams allowed a back pass from Baldwin to roll under his foot and just roll past the post.

People might look at the result and see Chesterfield lost at home again, it was another a good performance from the Spireites, having performed well in their last five matches they can take a lot of positives from the game. They are playing good attacking football and on other days they will get all three points.

They have a break from the league, when they travel to Notts County on Tuesday for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd Round match. Then on the Saturday they will travel to Hillsborough for the mouth watering match against Sheffield Wednesday. With a crowd of around 25,000 expected. The Spireite fans have been waiting for this game since the fixtures came out.

Sheridan, Talbot and Clarke former Owls players will be hoping to get one over on their old club. If they can perform like they have been, the Spireites could put a dent in their home record.  The owls have won all their five home games so far this season and are currently fourth in the table.
