Spireites had not managed to get a replacement for Davis who went back to Wolves and started his first game for them in a defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers. Niven came in to midfield to partner Allott and Hurst returned after injury to play at right back. Whittaker and Ajose were dropped to the bench, Jack Lester was again rested and was on the bench.

The Spireites started brightly winning 3 corners, within the first few minutes. The Spireites opened the scoring in the 12th minute, a Westcarr corner eventually came to Trotman who headed home, which made up for his last minute header at Preston which was on that occassion denied by the crossbar. The Spireites had taken a deserved lead and looked in control, things got better 10 minutes later when Westcarr headed the ball to Bowery, he looked to have lost the ball to Wilson. The ball went loose and Bowery lashed it beyond Day, a wonderful finish. The Spireites went in at half time 2-0 up, looking odds on for the 3 points.

The second half the Spireites couldn't repeat the performance of the first half, although didn't look in danger of conceding, because Stevenage were trying to play football under the management of Gary Smith. Where, as when they were managed by Graham Westley who since left for Preston, they used their physical strength and long ball tactics which had seen them win back to back promotions.

On 76 minutes a corner was flicked in by Laird to pull one back, and a minute later before Spireites could gather themselves together, so that they could hang onto their lead a ball came through the box and fell to Reid to make 2-2. In the end the Spireites held on for the draw in game they had dominated and should have won, a lack of concentration cost them again. The 308 Spireites fans were still in shock when they left the Stadium.

The Spireites are now 2nd from bottom and 5 points from safety, with the home game against MK DONS coming up, who are 5th in the table. They inflicted a 6-2 scoreline at their place, again a must win game, a defeat could see the Spireites 8 points from safety.
