Spireites earn much needed win against Tranmere.

This was one of biggest games of the season, if Spireites didn't win and lost the game, they would have been 7 points from safety. Drew Talbot came back in replacing Ford at Right back and Danny Whittaker played at left midfield replacing Westcarr. Tranmere had not won a game this year and a loss today would see them dragged into the relegation battle.

Neither side could get into the game and both sides failed to string any passing moves together. Bowery forced a save from Fon Williams after good play from Lester, Bowery also found himself in space, and was unable to get a shot at goal. Lester came close to scoring after a defensive mix up, he rounded the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line by Goodison. The first half finished 0-0.

Ajose came close to scoring, shooting first time from distance forcing a good save from Fon Williams, Bowery could only put the rebound wide of goal. Davis shot over the bar after combining with Lester, Spireites were enjoying most of the play without causing any real threat. Mcgurk was Tramere's main threat, Allott managed to thwart him at one stage by nicking the ball off him, he also forced a diving save out of Lee.

Mendy came on for Ajose, on 75 minutes Whittaker picked the ball up on the left, slotted a neat ball to Lester, he helped the ball onto Bowery who took a touch before calmly slotting it past the keeper, to send the home fans wild. The Spireites managed to see out the rest of the game, to take all 3 points and lift themselves to third from bottom 4 points from safety.

Next Preston away, the Spireites have lost their most influential player Davis, who has been instrumental in helping the Spireites much improved form, having been recalled by Wolves. The Spireites will miss his tackles in midfield his engine, as he never stopped running. I would like to thank him for his contribution in helping the Spireites reach Wembley and his commitment and effort he gave to the club and wish him all the best in the future. The Spireites are trying to bring in a replacement in time for the trip to Stevenage. It will be important to get some points out of those two games, four points would be great.  Keep the faith.
