Sam Togwell became the Spireites fifth signing of the summer, having been released by Scunthorpe United. He came through the Youth ranks at Crystal Palace making only one league Appearance. He then signed for Barnsley in 2006 making 66 league Appearances, scoring 2 goals in the championship. Sam then signed for Scunthorpe in 2008 helping them gain promotion to the Championship through the Play-offs. He went on to make 159 league appearances and scoring 8 goals for them, including 77 games in the championship.

He as been described as a workhorse, a defensive Midfielder that can win the ball back and offer protection to the defence, a player that the team have needed for a few seasons, he can also play at centre back.

The Squad consists of 21 players, one short of the target of a squad of 22. Will John Sheridan sign anybody else, I don't know if he as any funds left. Although the squad is a very good one with plenty of leaders all over the field, the main concern is if they have a crisis, with 3 of the squad players lacking experience as they come straight from the youth squad.

The board have definitely done the fans proud by signing quality rather than quantity. The side looks the best they have looked defensively for a few years, with plenty of experience. Hopefully the Spireites can hit the ground running when the season starts.
