The Spireites were looking to put a run of wins together, having beaten Oxford and Cheltenham.  They kept an unchanged team at Plymouth, so it was the line up that had produced a brilliant 4-1 win against Cheltenham.  Jamie Lowry was hoping to face his former team, but Plymouth decided to replace him with Molesley who had joined on loan earlier this week.


The conditions were not ideal, with a wet pitch and relentless rain.  Although the pitch which had been re-laid 2 years ago stood up well to the conditions. Plymouth looked the better team, creating lots of chances. Cooper blocked a shot from Nelson. Cowan-Hall and Gurrieri both went close.  Argyle carried on piling the pressure on, they couldn't break through a resolute defence, Hird and Cooper were standing firm.

Dickenson went off injured and was replaced by Boa Morte, he hit a shot from distance, just wide. His appearance had an immediate effect on the Spireites as they started to get into the game. Lester came on for Whittaker, the formation was changed to a 4-4-2.


A lovely cross from Boa Morte, was knocked on by Lester to Richards who scored from about 6 yards. Macdonald came close to putting the scores level, missing by inches.

The Spireites held onto victory as Plymouth started to tire.  Speaking to the media, Cook said:  'As you go through games, it's important that level of performance which was more through commitment and effort, is maintained. We weren't good in the game and we never really moved the ball like we know we can. There was no lack of commitment and effort, that was the pleasing thing, but lets make no bones about it Plymouth were hard done by, they were good value for a point.'


An honest description from Cook on his teams performance, they are not going to play at their best every week and if they want to achieve success they will sometimes need to grind out results.  The stand out performers were Hird and Cooper who earned their team a clean sheet in difficult conditions and constant pressure from a determined Plymouth team.


A break from the league sees the Spireites travel to League One leaders Tranmere in the FA Cup 2nd round. It will not be easy, but it's the Cup and anything could happen on the day.  The prize is a place in the 3rd round draw and the possibility of playing one of the Premier League big boys.
