New Recycling Plans in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Some Homes may have already received their new Burgundy Bins, ours will be arriving before the week-end.  I, for one, cannot wait!  We all know how important it is for the environment, to do our bit and this will make it all the more easier.

With the new arrival of the new Burgundy Bins we will now be able to recycle so much more and also have the added benefit of keeping all our recyclable waste contained with a lid on.  So there will be no more Blue Boxes filling up with rain water or bags of plastic bottles being blown around the garden when it has been windy!

This collection and recycling of Plastic, also means that we will be well ahead of the European rules for all councils to be collecting and recycling plastic bottles by 2015.

Did you know that approximately 43% of waste in our district is recycled but we can do better, being able to recycle Plastics directly from Home will have a massive impact on this figure.  Some interesting facts:

  • An estimated 13 billion plastic bottles are disposed of every year.
  • 11% of household waste is plastic!
  • 1 single plastic bottle being recycled can conserve enough energy to light a 60W light bulb for up to 6 hours.
  • 25 x 2 litre pop bottles are required to make one adults fleece jacket.
