Spireites Exit the FA Cup.

Chesterfield failed to progress from this second-round replay in this year's FA Cup, as Walsall sealed a 5-3 victory on penalties following a 0-0 scoreline after extra-time.

Mark Smith made two alterations from Saturday's defeat at Bury, as Jay O'Shea and Lee Novak took the places of Ollie Banks and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

In the opening moments, Romaine Sawyers tried his luck from range and forced a relatively simple save from Tommy Lee. Jordan Cook finds himself with a similar opportunity on the edge of the area, only to drag his effort low and wide of the post.

Involved once again, Sawyers struck from distance and was denied by Ian Evatt's resolute block which preceded an adequate clearance. Sam Morsy took matters into his own hands with a lone run that culminated in a wayward effort which sailed straight into the stands.

Following a neat through-ball, Novak drove forwards before slicing his effort out of play for a throw-in when expected to force a save from Neil Etheridge. Anthony Forde took up free-kick duties and watched his attempt sail narrowly wide of the post, courtesy of a deflection.

Just before the half-time whistle, Sam Mantom tried his luck with a half-volley that failed to trouble Lee in the slightest.

After the break, Emmanuel Dieseruvwe connected with a driven cross and directed his headed attempt straight in the direction of Etheridge who held with ease. O'Shea found space and tested the opposing goalkeeper, who palmed the Irishman's effort to safety.

Waiting on the edge of the area, George Evans eventually picked up possession and shot from distance but failed to trouble Lee who gathered possession. Milan Lalkovic had the first chance of note during extra-time, only to fire wide of the post from around 12 yards.

As extra-time progressed, chances became less frequent and the occurrence of a penalty shoot-out was viewed as an inevitability. Walsall prevailed 5-3 on penalties, following a poor effort from Morsy which provided an ideal opportunity for Paul Downing to seal progression to the third round of this year's FA Cup for his side.
