Spireites Weak in Walsall Woe.

Chesterfield fell to a 4-1 defeat against Walsall at the Proact Stadium on Saturday afternoon. James O'Connor's own-goal preceded strikes from Sam Mantom and Jordy Hiwula, which coincided with Tom Anderson's finish into his own net to compound defeat for the Spireites.

Danny Wilson made one alteration for this particular encounter, as Jay O'Shea took the place of Declan John.

In the opening moments, Rico Henry evaded his marker and produced a strike from an awkward angle which sailed waywardly wide of the post. Mantom latched onto a loose ball and tried his luck, only to watch his effort evade the target.

Waiting on the edge of the area, O'Shea received possession before firing straight into the stands. On 19 minutes, the Spireites opened the scoring courtesy of an own-goal as O'Connor directed O'Shea's cross into his own net.

Finding space on the edge of the area enabled Hiwula to strike, but Tommy Lee performed a resolute save. On 35 minutes, the visitors levelled the scoreline courtesy of Anderson's own-goal which came as a result of a driven delivery.

Just before the half-time whistle, Ollie Banks advanced before firing high and wide of the crossbar.

After the break, O'Shea struck from distance and watched the ball sail wide of the post. With 57 minutes on the clock, the visitors completed the comeback as Mantom slotted the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net with ease.

During the ensuing celebrations, Dion Donohue was dismissed for an incident involving a member of the opposition. With 71 minutes on the clock, Hiwula extended the visitors' lead with a simple finish past Lee in a one-on-one situation.

Four minutes later, the visitors netted their fourth of the afternoon through Mantom's simple finish past Lee from around 20 yards. As the contest entered its final moments, ten-man Chesterfield continued to push but to no avail.
