Defensive errors prove costly again, for nearly an hour Chesterfield competed well against a very good side. Sadly, Downes no longer has the pace to compete at this level. I felt Holden should have started instead of Downes, I felt at half time that Holden should have replaced him, as he was caught out with the pace of their first goal.
You can't get away with mistakes in this league, you will be punished as Chesterfield have found out to their cost. In league 2 the Spireites got away with it, because the forwards at that level aren't as lethal at finishing.
The positives were we scored two goals, Boden scoring both, and Bowery with both assists, both have come in for some criticism. Boden was unlucky not to get his hat-trick, just missing the target which would have made it 3 all.
The good news is, we don't play teams like MK Dons and Preston every week, if we did we would be in the Championship. The next two games will be crucial as they are both like us, in the bottom 3, a visit to Exeter and a Home game against Leyton Orient. It will be important to get at least 4 points from those games.
The stadium was awesome, because the concourse is high up, you have a great view of the pitch, a Capacity of 22,OOO and only 7,011 in attendance the stadium looked empty. Me and a mate went to the club shop before the game, because I like to collect key rings and my mate collects badges from all the clubs we visit. There was a massive queue of home fans buying the home kit. We hadn't got time to queue, we would miss the game, luckily we got to the Manager of the shop. He kindly offered to bring the items to us at half time. When the whistle blew, true to his word he was waiting for us. He didn't have to do it, but to go out of his way to help us was great.
The stewards where great as well, one of them did tell some Town fans to sit down but in the end he realised we weren't causing any trouble so he just left us. One lad after the fourth goal had gone and cut himself by punching a seat in temper. A big Steward came towards him, I thought he was going to be taken away, however the steward just asked if he was okay and if he needed medical attention. Luckily the seat and his hand were not damaged in anyway.
I would definitely recommend this Stadium, its definitely worth a visit. Also the seats are so comfy because they are padded and you have loads of leg room. Just hope it's an exciting game, because if it's a boring 0-0 you would be asleep by half time!
I am a blogger for the Derbyshire Times living in Chesterfield. I like to write about the Spireites, whom i follow Home and Away. I will be writing on here, about the season ahead, Match previews, Reports...
