Clubs and community groups across Derbyshire are being encouraged to promote healthy and active lifestyles with a new £180,000 Sports Action Grant.

Grants of up to £1,000 will be made available to sports clubs and voluntary or community organisations who are sports related activities and provide activities that:

  • Encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activities.
  • Promote healthy and active lifestyles
  • Encourage volunteering within sport.

This could include the development of existing local sports initiatives or new projects which support the promotion of healthy and rewarding lifestyles.

Cabinet Member for Public Health Councillor Carol Hart said:
"Our Community Action Grants are proving hugely popular and we wanted to keep the momentum going to develop sporting as well as other social and community activities. These grants are designed to encourage local people do their bit for their community and help a little go a long way to influence and improve hundreds of lives. Sports Action Grants tie in with our work to promote sport and recreation to help people achieve their full potential and encourage healthy and rewarding lifestyles and we're looking forward to supporting local initiatives which help us do this."

Grant application procedures and allocation criteria are currently being drawn up and successful applications will be evaluated once funding is given to ensure they continue meet the selection criteria.

Applications will open soon.
