Former players from Shirebrook ARLFC dusted off their boots and got stuck in to rugby league again as they took part in a game played to Masters rules, that raised over £200 for Leukaemia CARE charity. They lined up against a Barbarians side with players from Derbyshire, Halifax, Castleford and Doncaster, trading tries in a game where, as with all Masters games, no result was recorded. The rules are adapted to allow players to play to their capabilities and reduce the risk of injury to ageing bones.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and the Chargers are looking to get more games of this type on. All players over 35 who might be interested should call Tim on 0785-294-5989.

After a 6 week gap the Chargers under 15s got back into league action with what ended up as a comfortable win over Featherstone Lions, with the game being played at Featherstone Rovers' Post Office Road ground before their big game against Keighley. The 38-16 win takes the Chargers 2 points clear with games in hand, but it looked shaky when Featherstone scored twice in 5 minutes to take an early 10-0 lead.

Livewire forward Sean Briscoe reduced the defecit to 10-4 but a further converted try put the home side 16-4 ahead. With half time approaching and the fluency still somewhat lacking a vital try by Paddy Ryan closed the gap. Coach Lee Walters gave an inspiring half time talk and the Chargers returned to the form that has seen them move to the top of the league. Massive hits from Corey Cox, Ben Doxey and Munashe Fumhanda rocked the hosts and this opened gaps for scores by Macauley Watkinson, Ben Doxey (2), Harry Chapman and Ryan Banner. Chapman (3), Luke Walters and Warren Brown kicked conversions. At half time in the main game the players were presented with medals and did a lap of honour in front of over 2000 spectators.

Next week they aim to extend their unbeaten run as they travel to Castleford to take on the Smawthorne Panthers.
