A strong performance from the Spireites is not enough to avoid defeat against local rivals.

Over 3,000 Town fans travelled to Hillsborough to watch Spireites take on Sheff Wed, hoping to get a result and one over on their neighbours. The first 25 mins the Sheffield club dominated the game, and scored on the 17th minute from a corner, Buxton unmarked headed home.

Chesterfield never looked out of the game Randall bossing the midfield, spraying the ball around and setting up a lot of the attacks. They were denied a penalty, what looked like a deliberate handball. They started the second half looking the most likely to score, the Owls scored another goal against the run of play, when Madine hit shot from distance, which caught Fleming by surprise, he could only get a hand to it.

Town never gave in, and got their reward when Clarke slotted home from a Randall corner. The spireites took control stringing lots of passes together, a bad pass from Morgan enabled the Owls to break free and score their 3rd to make it 3-1.

The Spireites can take a lot of credit from the game, the only difference between the sides were that the owls were more clinical in front of goal, and scored at the most vital times in the game.

The good news for the Spireites is that Downes looks to be getting back to his best, putting in a solid performance against a physical Sheffield Wednesday team. Grounds had a good game playing at left back while Smith is away on international duty. He kept popping up on the left wing and putting some useful crosses in.

The Spireites will need to get four points from their next two home games, which will not be easy against Notts County and Hartlepool. They seem to be gelling really well as a team, and are building a good understanding with each other.
