As part of the Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association, Cheltenham Animal Shelter rescues and re-homes unwanted cats, dogs and other small animals from the areas of Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and the surrounding Cotswold District. The shelter also provides services for dog and cat boarding, dog grooming and an on-site pet store and charity shop.

The Shelter
Cheltenham Animal Shelter is a charity that has been providing care and support for animals since 1926. The association receives no government or lottery funding and is reliant on generous donations from the local residents.

Re-homing and Stray Animals
The Shelter’s main aim is to provide suitable homes for their rescued animals. A regularly updated list of animals is available online at http://gawa.org.uk/rehoming
If you are interested in adopting an animal, it is advisable to contact the shelter to check availability of the chosen animal before visiting. More information, such as re-homing policies and useful advice, can be found on the website.
If you have found a stray or abandoned animal in Gloucestershire, please contact your local council. For stray dogs in Cheltenham, the dog warden can be contacted via dogwarden@cheltenham.gov.uk or on 01242 264244.

Pet Boarding and Dog Grooming Facilities
The Charity caters for animals while their owners are away. With a Veterinary Surgery on-site, the fully-trained care assistants will provide comfortable accommodation for animals for the duration of their stay. The centre also offers a day creche for dogs.

Qualified dog groomer, Kathleen Powell, is available at the shelter on Tuesdays and Thursdays for dog grooming services. The service includes full clips or trims, nail clipping, washing and drying. To make an appointment or enquire about these services please call 07765 212534 or 01242523251.

CASVET Veterinary Practice
The veterinary practice is a joint partnership between Cheltenham Animal Shelter and Dragon Veterinary Centre. The aim of the practice is to offer high-standard veterinary care, and to support the Shelter. Services are offered at discounted rates for owners who may be struggling to meet the costs of providing care for their pet. The Practice offers a variety of Veterinary Services includig: vaccinations, neutering, micro-chipping, consultations, nursing clinics, dental care and other various treatments.
