Built in 1887, Cheltenham Library offers a wide range of services including Bookstart Club, internet cafe, local and family history library, on-site game consoles and young people’s lounge area. As part of the Gloucestershire Libraries, an online service is also available.

Situated on Clarence Street, Cheltenham Library provides access to hundreds of books and resources, including the Cheltenham local & family history library.

All Gloucestershire libraries have free-to-use computers with internet access, Microsoft Office software and printing abilities. Cheltenham Library has 23 computers that can be reserved, and each user can have access to the computers for up to 2 hours. To print using the library computers, the member will be charged a fee: B&W A4 – 10p/sheet, Colour A4 – 80p/sheet, B&W A3 – 20p/sheet, Colour A3 - £1/sheet. Cheltenham Library has a free Wi-Fi access area, and have volunteer ‘Computer Buddies’ who can assist with the use of computers on a one-to-one basis.

The library scheme can assist in the set-up of book clubs and reading groups. Members can benefit from free reservations, longer loans, a place to meet and a place to advertise for more group members. For more information on how to set-up a reading group and receive the group borrower card, please contact your local library directly.

As one of the Gloucestershire libraries, members have access to the online library which enables the ordering, renewing and managing of library loans over the use of the internet. The website, run by Gloucestershire county council, also provides access to the Online Library Catalogue where you can search for specific titles and their availability in the local libraries.

For eBooks and eAudiobooks, Gloucestershire Libraries provides links to the ‘Download Library’. Overdrive, Bolinda, the Public Library On-line, Virtual Reference Library and the Cyber Library are all accessible for the downloading of eBooks and eAudiobooks. Most download libraries require software to be installed on the intended reading/listening device, and links to the software can be found online. As a borrowing service, the books can be downloaded and are automatically removed after the loan is up.

Cheltenham Library and the Gloucestershire County Council are always looking for new volunteers to help in their members in a variety of different ways. These roles may include helping with the Summer Reading Challenge, the Baby Bounce and Rhyme, Story Time, becoming a Computer Buddy, Library Displays and many more.
