Go bat hunting this autumn!

A great way to learn about nocturnal wildlife is to go on a bat walk with the experts. You can do that this autumn at the Llanelli Wetland Centre. There will be some fun activities for kids – and plenty of hot drinks for all! The event starts at 7pm on Friday, September 25th.

A different meaning for a ‘night out’

The evening bat walk begins just after sunset, around 7pm and lasts about an hour.  You will take bat detectors on a walk around the Millennium Wetlands and the grounds of the Llanelli Wetland Centre to look and listen for bats.

Craft activities will be available for children from 6.30pm. And at 8pm hot drinks (tea, coffee or hot chocolate) and biscuits will be available, included in the price.

The evening costs just £4 per person (including refreshments and children's craft activities), and must be paid at the time of booking. To book call the centre on 01554 741 087.

The Llanelli Wetland Centre is at Penclacwydd, Llwynhendy, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire SA14 9SH.

If the Bat Walk isn’t your idea of a great evening out there is plenty going on here in the daytime too. You can hand feed the rarest goose in the world, plus around 600 of the world’s most spectacular birds,  see the colourful flamingos, go bug hunting or pond dipping, enjoy bird watching from the hides and explore the reserve to see butterflies, dragonflies and much more.

The 450 acre site features pools, lagoons, reed beds, marshes and meadows – all providing a wildlife haven.

There's plenty to keep children entertained - from the fabulous flamingos to the Water Vole City play area.

Weekend activities through September include a Minibeast hunt, birdwatching and identification and pond dipping.

All are run by experts who can answer your questions and help you identify the species you see.

And every Monday in term time, from September 7th to October 19th, there is a session for toddlers to take part in activities especially for them, with a different theme each week. Activities include pond dipping, minibeast hunting, arts and crafts, stories, games and feeding the birds. The sessions are included in the admission price and are free for members.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity that saves wetlands, which are essential for life itself. Wetlands are the primary source of drinking water for people and wildlife. They also connect us with nature, and with ourselves, through beautiful landscapes and inspiring encounters with wildlife.
