Amanda Savinelli is a textile and fashion artist whose work is rooted in identity, place, culture and memory. Drawing inspiration from the histories of Welsh communities, the natural landscape and local architecture, she uses textiles and clothing to explore the stories that shape our sense of belonging and connection to place.
For Amanda, clothing is a form of storytelling — a way of preserving the past while reinterpreting it through contemporary design.
Over the past year, Amanda has been involved in TYISHA, a collaborative project exploring the story of Jac-Ty-Isha, a figure associated with the Rebecca Riots in the Gwendraeth Valley. Through visits to local schools, the project has encouraged exploration of local history, place and identity, connecting younger generations with the stories and heritage of their communities.
