Staff training is it cost effective?

Are you one of many employers who are concerned about training costs when it comes to improving staff efficiency?

  • Are you afraid that if you train an employee in new skills they will up and leave?

In small businesses these are valid concerns but have you thought what would happen if you don’t have your staff trained properly?

Your staff feel frustrated, the system they were once trained in is now 10 years out of date, it takes a long time to get the information as they don’t know how or where to find it.  It leads to job dissatisfaction and they leave!!

Technology moves fast and sometimes keeping abreast of  changes can be daunting.  Your business could be suffering if you do not know the numbers – Your numbers – costs, profit, cash flow just to name 3.   This is a significant area of your business and if you or your staff find it difficult to find your way around your accounts such as Sage or indeed a spreadsheet using Excel –it  could be costing you more than just a little overtime!

How much better it is to have well trained staff up to date in their understanding and workings of the latest systems.  They will be able to deliver reports and other information on time every-time and probably before you even have to ask!!   Now some staff might leave after training but most more often than not appreciate the time and money spent on their training and give back 10 fold in time and efficiency.  Good well trained staff are like gold dust and as such employers should value them.

Ask yourself some questions:

  • Do you know at any one time how much is owed to your company or how much you owe?
  • Do you know how many customers you have and who has bought from you in the last 3 months or even 6 months.
  • How long would it take for you to access this information? Would you or your staff  know how?

Properly trained staff pay for themselves several times over in increased efficiency and productivity with the added bonus that well trained staff also benefit.  Contrary to popular belief, well trained staff are usually happy and loyal. They rarely move on if they know they are valued, considered and trained.  Staff value employers who look after their employees.
