The Thursday Club
Where:  The Church Hall, Llandybie, Ammanford

Background
The Thursday Club is a self funded charitable organisation based in Llandybie Ammanford that runs a Club on Thursday evenings in Llandybie Church Hall.

The Club is a place where adults with learning difficulties can spend a few hours away from their normal daily environment and relax and have fun with others in a the relaxed atmosphere of the Club. There is no set agenda, they can paint, draw, play games, or just generally socialise. Soft drinks and snack or even full meals are provided for all. Games can be as varied as jigsaws and needlework up to the latest Wii machines and record mixing desks.

The problem put to AVK Interiors.
The Church hall is a multi user establishment and is used by the whole community and the Club spent a lot of time setting up equipment and clearing it away again after everyone had left at the end of the evening. In addition, as more electronic equipment was provided, it needed to be stored safely  and securely until the next weeks Club.

The solution……
…..was to design and manufacture a complete unit, on wheels, that could hold all of the clubs equipment and be locked up and wheeled away at the end of the evening.

In addition, once out, it could be used as a stand alone TV and games unit. The doors could be swung right open, with the TV and games consoles all on heavy duty adjustable shelves.

The carcase and doors were designed and constructed in a simple way so as not to make it stand out as containing items of any value. At the same time it needed to be strong and robust enough to take the regular use of multi users who might not consider careful use.

Steel library strips were inserted in to the carcase to ensure the shelves could take whatever weight was put on them , the base was doubled up in thickness and double lapped to make cure it was solid enough for it’s future use and locking castors were fitted to ensure it could be locked in place if needed.  
Service holes were provided in the solid back to allow electric cables to be run out of the back to avoid any trip hazards when in use and ease the set up of the unit at the start of the night.

 “We were thrilled when AVK made this unit for use, we didn’t think you would be able to get a unit that suited our needs so well, and it has made our evening so much more enjoyable. We can now quickly get every thing set up in minutes and clear away at the end of the night just as quickly and just wheel the unit away. It has become the focal point of the evenings as people wait for their turn to use the games machines it holds”.
