To coin a phrase “ what a difference a day makes” The early part of the week continued its relentless monsoon but yesterday - Sunshine and I spent a very pleasurable hour taking photographs of Glyn Abbey Golf Course.
This is a really friendly club with over 300 members of keen golfers all with different handicaps. The course itself has recently won the CCV Welsh Golf Course of the Year 2009. An accolade indeed as only a few years ago the course built on the site of an open cast mine was in very poor condition. It is a credit to Martin Lane and his team and in particular the members positive spirit that has turned this wonderful club around.
Glyn Abbey Golf Club is proud to be a Golf Foundation Junior Starter Centre and has over 50 enthusiastic youngsters as junior members
Hawtree Limited designed the course back in 1992 and used the woodland setting along the Gwendraeth Valley to create great variety of open and closed holes as well as giving stunning views. I am given to understand that the course has been built to give the ardent golfer a challenge so playing the course demands a good game plan.
The plans for the New Clubhouse have been given the go ahead and when I was there yesterday the groundworks for the new restaurant had commenced as you will see from the pictures. It is all very exciting. So over the coming months I will keep you updated on the build and its progress.
I am not a golfer agreeing with the Mark Twain point of view but the setting at Glyn Abbey is certainly spectacular and probably more important very friendly that I may well be tempted to review my current stance!!
