Antiques Fair FIRST for Garden

...so says David Hardy (Head of Marketing and Communications at the National Botanic Garden  of Wales)

The biggest single-span glasshouse in the world will play host to its very first antiques fair on January 14-15 as ‘FREE entry’ month continues at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

The event is organised by Derwen Fairs and is promising two days of high-quality antiques stalls with china, jewellery and furniture.

Derwen’s Brita Rogers said: “In all, the fair is very well rounded, with a balance of furniture ranging from an impressive collection of early oak  furniture and period mahogany pieces, to an array of country pine. There will also be a display of period French clocks, together with the more traditional long case clocks.”

Brita said the emphasis would be very much on quality - from ancient Chinese to the retro 60s and country farmhouse.

David Jones will be showing off his extensive collection of fine quality sponge ware, some early Pratt ware and rare Chinese porcelain.

Says Brita: “David has an extensive collection of miniature pottery to include some rare children’s plates and mugs dating back to the 18th century. A stand not to be missed!”

There will, be a strong representation of Welsh pottery - from Swansea, Glamorgan Llanelli and the increasingly popular Ewenny - and Richard Bebb will be showcasing his Welsh paintings, including a Kyffin Williams.

Welsh textiles will also be a feature with a large range of Welsh tapestry blankets and Welsh woollen blankets (carthen).

Brita added: “The range of stands is extensive, from Deco displays featuring Clarice Cliff, Moorcroft, Lalique glass, to stands displaying gorgeous Victorian linen, vintage clothes, fans and costume jewellery, as well as an appealing display of nostalgic interior designs. There will also be fishing reels, jewellery, watches and militaria.”

The fair opens its doors at 10am and closes at 4.30pm; admission is FREE both to the gardens and the fair. For event info, go to www.gardenofwales.org.uk or call 01558 629 022
