A lovely spot of vino

Some friends and I are planning a trip to Barnsole Vineyard soon, which we've heard does some very interesting tours and - more importantly - tasting sessions.

One of the said friends is getting married next year, and it's the perfect excuse to test his palette on potential wines for the Big Day.

Barnsole Vineyard, on Fleming Road, Staple near Canterbury, welcomes visitors - and admission and tasting is free. Their 20-minute tours are also free, during which you'll be introduced to the vines and how they're grown, and then how the wine is made.

Barnsole also run full guided vineyard tours - these must be booked in advance - at £2.50 per person - bargain. Better still, groups of 20 people or more are shown round for £2.00 per person.

Obviously at thebestof Canterbury we champion all things local, and there's nothing better than cracking open a very good bottle of wine, knowing it was grown and made just around the corner. Grape growers from France are exploring Kent for potential land even as we speak, because the conditions are so ideal for quality wine production.

The vineyard is open daily from 10.30 am - 5.00 pm between April and October, and are even open most days during the winter, closing at 4.00pm.
