Unravelling the myths around the Nordic Model Ash Regan MSP joins us to discuss her Unbuyable Bill (Prostitution, Offences and Support (Scotland) Bill), and addresses common claims made about the Nordic Model, alongside the brave testimony from Venessa, a survivor of the Scottish sex industry.

We are delighted that Ash Regan, independent MSP for Edinburgh Eastern, will be joining us on Sunday 11 January for a webinar to discuss her Unbuyable bill. The bill seeks to lessen the harms from prostitution in Scotland through a holistic approach known as the Nordic Model.

Ash will be joined by Venessa, a survivor of the Scottish sex industry and Heli St Luce. The seminar will be introduced and chaired by Emily Husain.

Following a short presentation by each speaker, our panel will answer your questions, which you can submit during the seminar, or in advance by email.

The Unbuyable bill, officially the Prostitution, Offences and Support (Scotland) Bill, reflects the Nordic Model approach to prostitution, first introduced in Sweden in 1999. Here selling of sex by individual women is decriminalised, but the buying of sexual services becomes a criminal offence. Crucially the Unbuyable bill also provides extensive support services for those wishing to exit prostitution and will clear any previous convictions a woman may have for soliciting.

Unfortunately there are many myths around the Nordic model, often circulated by organisations purporting to act in the best interests of sex workers. Some of these take the form of bad faith arguments, others rely on falsifiable data while others still infantilise men or romanticise what is in reality a dangerous and unromantic activity.

Whatever your views on the Unbuyable bill, please join us for what will be an interesting and informative webinar.

The webinar is free, but you need to register in advance.
